   To the editor:    Thank you Gary Allen, for a very rational and reasoned discussion of gun control.    Yes, it will take “reasonable” people to get involved for civil discourse to take place and for appropriate measures to be taken to reduce gun violence in this country.

Many thanks to the fire department    To the editor:    I had the opportunity to attend the Newberg Fire Department’s annual awards banquet recently and while I was sitting there, as they gave out awards to the firefighters for the things they have done during the past year, I was thinking of all the things we the townsfolk need to be thankful for and very pleased with.

Ray’s sets example    To the editor:    Recently it was announced that Ray’s Food Place in Willamina discontinued the use of plastic bags at its store beginning in January with the stated purpose of eliminating them from the trash stream.
