PORTLAND -- Lewis & Clark hit 36-43 from the foul line and staved off a furious second-half rally to beat George Fox 80-68 Monday in a showdown of the top two Northwest Conference teams.

Friday’s performance by Newberg wasn’t exactly the way it wanted to kick off the Pacific Conference opener.
The Tigers (5-5 overall, 0-1 Pacific) managed just four points in the first half and ended up shooting a lowly 8-35 from the field (23 percent) for the game and fell 50-19 at home to Tigard.

Sharks will host meet
The Chehalem Swim Team will host its Shark Chase Meet Friday through Sunday at the Chehalem

Although the cat was let out of the bag a bit prematurely last month, Newberg High School Athletic Director Tim Burke still managed to surprise head wresting coach Neil Russo at the 20th annual Earl Gillis Tournament by springing a ceremony on him to recognize him being named national wrestling coach of the year by the National Federation of High Schools.
