Pioneers hold off Bruins for key Northwest Conference win

   Friday’s performance by Newberg wasn’t exactly the way it wanted to kick off the Pacific Conference opener.    The Tigers (5-5 overall, 0-1 Pacific) managed just four points in the first half and ended up shooting a lowly 8-35 from the field (23 percent) for the game and fell 50-19 at home to Tigard.
