The pilot of a Piper Aircraft PA-44 Seminole was able to land in a field adjacent to Champoeg State Heritage Area after colliding with another airplane last month.
The flight instructor in the larger of the two planes that collided over the Willamette River last month, causing the death of a retired Oregon State Police trooper, initially thought his plane had hit some geese, according to a preliminary investigation report published Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board.
