Beware the tansy —
Tansy ragwort, a sunflower relative, is an invasive weed that is toxic for livestock, particularly horses and cattle. Some Newberg-area residents and animal experts said they have noticed an increase in the plant’s population over the past few years.
Ever since Heidi Jones, as a teenager, watched her horse’s half-brother die due to ingesting tansy ragwort, she has been especially sensitive to noticing when the distinctive yellow blooms pop up in pastures as she drives by.
