State’s wines make inroads in 2012

Insiders say Wine Spectator feature cements Oregon’s pinot noir as a must have in restaurant and wine shop cellars

After a 2012 that set several milestones for the Oregon wine industry, the outlook is rosy for 2013 and beyond thanks to an exceptional grape harvest earlier this year. Those milestones included a census report that showed the state had for the first time eclipsed the 2 million mark for finished cases sold in a year and a November feature in Wine Spectator magazine, which one insider described as a ‘20-page love letter to Oregon pinot noir.’
   It may be a bit early to call 2012 a great year for Oregon wines — with the vintages still months from being released — but it’s safe to say it was a great year for Oregon wineries.
