The graves of dozens of Civil War soldiers reside in GAR Cemetery

Many soldiers buried in the GAR Cemetery are from regiments from Illinois, including Solomon L. Spann, a member of the 99th Illinois Infantry.
    It wasn’t the rattle of musketry, or disease, or blasts from 12-pound Napoleon cannons that did Henry Hopkins in during his years of soldiering in the Civil War.
