The Newberg Fire Department’s new, so-called patient-transport engine is unique in the state of Oregon, according to Newberg Fire Chief Les Hallman. The custom-built $600,000 vehicle has the full capabilities of a standard fire engine, with the added ability to transport patients to a health care facility.
The majority of firefighting agencies in the state of Oregon are like Newberg’s — they pull double duty, providing both fire and emergency medical services.
