Signing —
On Nov. 30, 1912, in the presence of Oregon Gov. Oswald West (right) and Dr. Viola M. Coe (left), suffragist Abigail Scott Duniway signed the bill she had drafted earlier, legalizing a woman’s right to vote in the state of Oregon.
Much like 2012, 1912 was a year of triumph and tragedy.    It was the year of the sinking of the Titanic, the year of the founding of the Boy and Girl Scouts, the year Harriet Quimby became the first woman to fly over the English Channel, only to die two months later in a plane crash.
