The agriculture industry is a vital part of the economy in Newberg, Dundee and St. Paul, including the production of such commodities as hazelnuts, wine grapes, strawberries and wheat. But according to a report released by the state last month, Oregon farms, on average, fall short of those in California, Washington and Idaho in many key areas.
   A comprehensive report released last month on the state of Oregon agriculture shows the industry lags behind those of its Western neighbors in many key measures of farm success and viability.
