Adaptation of charming fairy tale misses mark

Film review — ‘Hansel & Gretel’ doesn’t sugarcoat later adventures of sweet-toothed siblings

Bad aim —
Jeremy Renner, one-half of the titular duo leading ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters,’ and company miss the mark in director Tommy Wirkola’s adaptation of the classic fairy tale.
Before Hollywood came along, stories ended with the words “And they lived happily ever after.” Like in the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel, wherein after the two clever children manage to escape death at the hands of a cannibalistic witch and make their way back home, they find their wicked stepmother dead and enjoy a life of happiness with their loving father.
