Gallery presents ‘Art of the Vine’

The new exhibit at Arts Element Gallery will feature a pair of photographers, Mike Haverkate and Janis Miglavs, and painter Jackie McCartin.

   A trio of artists inspired by Yamhill County’s wine country will be featured in a new exhibit titled “Art of the Vine,” running through Sept. 26 at Art Elements Gallery on First Street.   Their work will serve as the backdrop to a presentation by Allen Holstein of Granville Winery (and the past manager of Argyle, Knudsen, Domaine Drouhin and Stoller, among others) on the terroir, history and future of the Willamette Valley wine industry.

Trolley returns to First Friday   “The Trolley” charter bus will be a regular participant in the First Friday Art Walk, beginning Sept. 3. Free rides are available, starting at the Chehalem Cultural Center and making four to five stops per loop of downtown.

New book looks ‘behind’ tantrums

   “Ruthie and the Hippo’s Fat Behind” may have a humorous title, but its author, Margot Finke, has a serious purpose.   The local children’s author coined the title of her latest book as a metaphor for the sulky moods that her heroine Ruthie suffers after moving to a new neighborhood and struggling to make friends.
